Self-guided Boulder Brewery Hop
Boulder's craft brewery scene is not as significant as other cities in Colorado, however, there are 15 craft breweries in the area. The breweries range from large breweries like Avery Brewing that distributes widely to small 'hole in the wall' type breweries - and everything in between. Taking a self-guided brewery hop is a fun way to get to know the town and meet some locals. Below is a self-guided brewery hop with breweries closest to the downtown Boulder area, as well as a list of all of the breweries in the area. You will need a car to get around Boulder, as the breweries are not within walking distance. We hope you enjoy this afternoon of craft beers in Boulder!Uhl’s Brewing Company
5460 Conestoga Ct, Boulder, CO 8030https://uhlsbrewing.com/
Start your brewery hop in Boulder, Colorado at Uhl's Brewing on 55th Street, just north of Arapahoe Ave.
Proud of their small batches with unique flavors, Uhl's owner, Aaron Uhl, opened Uhl's Brewing in 2020. If sours, barrel aged beers, or IPAs are your thing, well, you really should grab a beer here.
This smaller sized brewery and taphouse has 19 rotating beers on tap. The metal and wood décor makes for a very comfortable, modern industrial vibe. Guests can sit inside at the bar or a table or outside on the patio.
Review:
We truly enjoyed this taphouse. The beer tender was very friendly and engaged in conversation with us about beer - of course. We tasted several beers, struggling to choose which one to order as they were all so good with wonderful flavors. I tried the Peaches and Cream Compote, a pastry sour, which tasted like a peach cobbler in a glass - smooth flavors of peaches, cinnamon and vanilla - yum.
Kettle and Spoke Brewery
2500 47th St #12, Boulder, CO 80301https://www.kettleandspoke.com/
From Uhl's Brewing, head south on 55th Street to Arapahoe Avenue and then head West to Foothills Parkway, take the Pearl Street exit and then go North on 47th Street to Kettle and Spoke Brewery.
Paul Sink and Patrick Mulcahy opened their small brewery Kettle and Spoke, located in an industrial area of Boulder, in 2016. The brewery and taphouse is located in a long warehouse building which they share with a bike shop.
This very small brewery & taphouse is a bit of a 'hole in the wall' but it has character! They have 6 beers on tap. There is a small amount of seating inside and a garage door that opens to a small patio area. This very laid back, eclectic taproom is a relaxing place to enjoy a beer. They are family and dog friendly. If you are lucky, you will be entertained by live music.
Review:
This is an interesting brewery...very relaxed atmosphere. Staff is welcoming and locals are social. I had the Chocolate Oatmeal Stout which pours dark and chocolatey brown...a smooth, sweet, filling stout... kind like a meal in a glass.
VisionQuest Brewery

The next brewery on our self-guided brewery hop for is VisionQuest Brewery, which is just a short walk north-west from Kettle and Spoke. Head north to the other side of the parking lot, and head on in!
VisionQuest owners, Greg Kallfa and Adam Kandle, opened the doors in Boulder in 2015. This is another very laid back, eclectic, small brewery and tap house with good beer. You can enjoy your beer inside at a handful of tables or on the front patio. They have 16 beers on tap and are family and dog friendly. They also have a small area for a live band.

From VisionQuest, drive south on 47th Street, turn right on Pearl Street and then left on Frontier Ave.
Sanitas opened in 2013. Located in a large warehouse building, Sanitas shares a space with a small coffee cart and has a small, old school taco food truck on it's back patio.
You can enjoy your beer inside in the relaxed open concept taproom with a comfortable décor, on their large deck or in their beautiful beer garden right next to the rails.
Review:
We very much enjoyed sitting in the beer garden with a soft breeze and a beer...beautiful weather, scenery and a good beer. I had the Lemonberry a refreshing sour with a light, lemony slightly sour front with a mellow berry finish.
Twisted Pine
3201 Walnut St ste a, Boulder, CO 8030https://twistedpinebrewing.com/
From Sanitas, left on Frontier Ave, then turn left onto Pearl Parkway, turn left again on Junction Pl, left onto Prairie Ave and right into the parking lot. Twisted Pine is located at 32nd Street and Walnut.
Founder, Gordon Knight opened Twisted Pine in 1995 but sold it to the current owner, Bob Baile in 1996. The brewery originally focused on bottling and distributions. They opened the tap house in 2003 and later a restaurant in 2010. They currently have 30 beers on tap. They also serve apps, salads and pizza.
This reasonably large brewery and taphouse has a mountainy and a bit industrial feel. There is a no frills, relaxing indoor seating area with 10 tables and TV's or you can enjoy your beer on the patio, which bleeds into the parking lot, out front.
Review:
We enjoyed relaxing with a beer and watching football. Staff is friendly and there are so many beer choices. We tried the Pumpkin Peeps, served with whipped cream and cinnamon on top - how yummy! This Pumpkin Marshmallow Porter was like a pumpkin pie in a glass- smooth, full of flavor with vanilla resonating throughout. I chose to top it off with whipped cream & a sprinkle of cinnamon and I felt like I was in heaven.
