One Beer-tiful day in Wynwood, Florida
We know, we know...when you think of Florida, craft beer is not the first thing that comes to mind. But after a long day at the beech and a few nights of partying in Miami... when you need to lay off of the sun, a cold beer may just do the trick.
Every once in a while, since Colorado is land locked, the beach calls for us. So, we decided to go relax in Miami Beach. We loved strolling down the board walk, enjoying the Cuban food, hanging out in the ocean, and even doing a little dancing at the clubs. We were surprised, however, that Miami Beach only had one Brewery, and it was more of a dive bar than a brewery. So, when we were told to check out Wynwood, we took a day away from the ocean and headed West. We have never visited a place like Wynwood before, but we are glad we did.Wynwood is like no other place we have ever visited... very artsy, a bit sketchy, intriguing, and a great place for good beer, street art and some simply amazing food.
History of Wynwood, Florida
Wynwood is a neighborhood north of Miami, Florida which has a long history. It was established in 1917, originally known as Wynwood Park. At that time, reportedly, North Miami did not have alcohol restrictions, therefore, this area was home to saloons and perhaps not always the most moral behaviors. The neighborhood was home to middle class, working families. In the late 1920's commercial industries moved into the Wynwood neighborhood, including The American Bakeries Company, Coca-Cola and an Orange Juice bottling company. The Garment District also began to grow at this time, employing many Cubans. In the 1940's, toward the end of World War II, many Wynwood residents moved to new suburbs, causing the neighborhood to change. Many immigrants from Puerto Rico moved into the neighborhood, which became known as "Little San Juan" in the late 1950's. The neighborhood became more diverse over the next 20 years. In the 1970's, many commercial residents moved out, causing Wynwood to deteriorate into an assortment of old warehouses. In 1987, a nonprofit group purchased the abandoned bakery building which became Florida's largest working artist's space, called the 'Bakehouse'. Then, in the early 2000's Tony Goldman, an entrepreneur and developer saw a potential not obvious to most. Tony Goldman dreamt up his plan for the open air museum, opening Wynwood Walls with Art Basel in 2009.
Enjoy the street art, food, breweries and stores that this developing neighborhood has to offer.

We loved the culture of Puerto Rico of this brewery.
